Russell Westbrook, Our MVP
Oklahoma exploded with celebration on Monday, June 26th, when Russell Westbrook was named the league’s Most Valuable Player, an outcome we were all expecting.
Westbrook led the Oklahoma City Thunder to 47 wins and a playoff appearance. He also became the second player in NBA history to average a triple-double-double-digit-points, rebounds, and assists- for a season. We could go on and on about Westbrooks accomplishments.
His biggest one yet, at least for us Oklahomans, is for thriving under unruly circumstances and uniting us as a whole because if there’s one thing we can all agree with here is our love and dedication to the OKC Thunder.
Thank you for always giving us the best seasons Russ, there is no one more deserving of this award than you! From your family here at Edmond Hyundai
This year Hyundai ranked third in the 2019 J.D. Power quality scorecard, scoring 71 problems per 100 vehicles, which is a slight improvement from its 2018 score.
This ranking is a remarkable accomplishment for Hyundai considering more brands dropped this year instead of improving in ranking in the heavily monitored Initial Quality Study released June 19, 2019, at the Automotive Press Association.
The 2019 Initial Quality Study is determined by the results of a 233 question survey across eight vehicle categories and is completed by 76,256 buyers and lessees of new 2019 models. Dave Sargent, vice president of global automotive at J.D. Power, said there are several underlying reasons for Hyundai’s high ranking, including its user-friendly technology that is easy for consumers to operate and understand.
According to Sargent, Korean brands like Hyundai are adept at “understanding exactly what consumers want in their vehicles and delivering just that.”

Blood Drive with American Red Cross of Oklahoma

Every donation of blood affects three lives, sometimes by saving them. There is always a need for clean blood of every type, and that is why Edmond Hyundai was happy to help the American Red Cross of Oklahoma by hosting a blood drive at the dealership on June 16, 2017. From 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. members of the community were welcome to come in and donate. With a lounge area, snack and water available, it was a great place to have a drive.
Makailyn Dillon, a Blood Donor Recruitment Account Representative for the American Red Cross in Oklahoma, attended the event and felt that it was successful at bringing the community together for the cause. “We were very pleased with the drive overall, and the willingness of the donors to share this life-saving gift. Dillon said. “The efforts of Edmond Hyundai are greatly appreciated and their support of the Red Cross blood program will go a long way toward replenishing blood supplies and ultimately saving lives. In addition, we very much appreciate your efforts during this crucial time.”
With the donations given at the Edmond Hyundai Blood Drive, 42 people received the strength to recover from illness or injury. Stay connected with Edmond Hyundai on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn so that you can be part of the next blood drive.
Doing Good Things Together
Every handprint tells a story.
In 1998, Hyundai and a group of New England-area dealers joined the fight against pediatric cancer by supporting a local initiative to support the Jimmy Fund at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This activity quickly grew nationwide and soon became Hyundai Hope On Wheels (HHOW). HHOW is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, that is committed to helping kids fight cancer. The goals of the organization are to fund research and to create awareness for childhood cancer. Hyundai Motor America and its more than 830 dealers and customers support the cause with a donation from every new vehicle sold. In 2017, HHOW surpasses $130 million in life-time donations to pediatric cancer research in the United States.
Why pediatric cancer?
Hyundai and its dealers are committed to Better products, Better service, and a Better society. Through acts of better, we donate to charitable efforts in order to benefit society. Kids are the future and they deserve every opportunity to grow, play and learn in a world free of pediatric cancer. Every 36 minutes a child is diagnosed with the disease in the U.S. Despite advancements in research, one in five diagnosed will not survive. Pediatric cancer is the leading disease and cause of death for U.S. children. At HHOW, our goal is to fund pediatric cancer research, to drive innovative research and to create new discoveries that increase the survival rates of those with the disease.
Why funding research matters?
As recent as the 1950’s, a diagnosis of pediatric cancer has an almost always certain outcome and very few children survived. Due to advancements technology, improvements in data analysis, and research collaboration, today nearly 80% of pediatric cancers can be cured. The survival rate, while good, does not tell the entire story. Many forms of pediatric cancer remain high risk for children and have shown little progress. And the harmful side effect for far too many kids, take a severe toll on their bodies. The goal of research is to improve cures and to improve care for children diagnosed with the disease.
You may be shocked to discover that less than 4% of federal research funding for cancer is designated for pediatrics. Without necessary funding, potentially life-saving research and new treatment therapies will go undone. We believe that these young childhood-cancer fighters deserve a chance, and HHOW is funding research in pursuit of a cure.
Why HHOW Research Grants?
HHOW has quickly become recognized as a leader in funding of pediatric cancer research in the U.S. More than 780 grants have been awarded over the past 19 years. In fact, there are over 280 HHOW research projects currently underway. For 2017, we will announce an additional 68 pediatric cancer research grants. A HHOW research grant is awarded to an institution that is member of the Children’s Oncology group of America (COG) and the doctor-researcher within these institutions is doing research in pediatric oncology, which has a translational benefit to patients. Grant applicants are invited to submit a research proposal once a year. These proposals are peer-reviewed by a scientific panel and funded grants are selected based on their innovation to the field and ability to have the greatest impact on improving cures. There are 4 HHOW grant categories:
1. The Hyundai Impact Award ($50,000): a one-year grant awarded to the pediatric cancer oncology department at children’s hospitals in the U.S. Funds may be used to provide programmatic support or clinician for patient care at the center.
2. The Young Investigator Grant ($150,000): a two-year grant, which is peer-reviewed and competitively selected. The grant supports the work of a pediatric oncologist, who is within his/her first 7 years of practice at an academic institution and is doing translational research.
3. The Hyundai Scholar Hope Grant ($250,000): a two-year grant, which is peer-reviewed and competitively selected. The grant supports the work of a pediatric oncologist, who is an MD physician-researcher at any level of his/her career at any COG member institution and is doing translational research.
4. The Hyundai Quantum Award ($1 million): a four-year grant, which is for a peer-reviewed and competitively selected. This grant is awarded to a pediatric oncologist, who is an MD physician-researcher, for advanced research projects that focus on high risk pediatric cancers with low survival rates. Why handprints? Each year HHOW visits children’s hospitals across the U.S. to donate funds and raise awareness. During the event, we host our signature “Handprint Ceremony” which captures each child’s handprint in paint. These handprints are placed on Hyundai cars that travel across the country to build colorful awareness of the program.
Because there is nothing more personal than a handprint, each is distinctive in its own way. Whether it’s completing a round of chemo, celebrating a beautiful new head of hair or receiving a clean bill of health, one child’s milestone can be another’s symbol of hope. And these handprints serve as our symbol.
Why do we fight to End Childhood Cancer?
It’s all about the kids. No child ever deserves to hear the words ‘you have cancer.’ HHOW is dedicated to supporting pediatric cancer research that finds innovative approaches, creates discovery, and improves care for children fight cancer. Working together with the physician-research community, we seek to find a day when no child loses his/her fight with cancer again.
In 2017, Hyundai Hope On Wheels will reach $130 million in donations to pediatric cancer research. In the years to come, we will continue to award additional grant dollars and to create greater awareness for the disease. And, we invite you to join our journey and help spread the word through your direct participation, personal involvement and social media activities to increase awareness.

Do it Yourself | Changing A Car Battery

My dad has been a do-it-yourselfer ever since I can remember. When I got my first new car in high school, the minute it needed a new battery he took the chance to teach me how to do it myself. And frankly, with a dead battery it tends to be something you have to do yourself because if the battery dies it’ll be pretty difficult to get it to a mechanic. So here is a basic step-by-step walk through on how to change your vehicles battery so that you’re never stranded in busy Edmond without a plan.
To start things off, make sure your car is turned OFF and you are wearing safety gloves. Pop your hood and locate your car’s battery, it’ll be a large rectangle. Loosen the negative (black) cable by loosening the nut and detaching the cable from it. Then do the same to detach the positive (red) cable. If there is a bracket holding the battery in place, you will want to use a pair of pliers to loosen and remove it. Car batteries are surprisingly heavy, so brace yourself to lift it and use the handle if your battery has one attached.
When adding in the new battery, make sure you reattach the cables in their appropriate places; positive cable to positive nut, and negative cable to negative nut. Retighten the bracket back over the battery and you should be all set. If while you’re reattaching the battery you notice an corrosion on the cables or connections, use battery cleaning solution and a wire brush to clean off the corrosion and create a better connection.
Car batteries cannot just be tossed out with your regular trash, so make sure you dispose of it properly. In Oklahoma, if you buy the new battery from Wal-Mart, they will also accept your old one to recycle. If you’d rather it be done by a professional, check the excellent rates provided at Edmond Hyundai.

Get your emotions ready, Oklahoma. Hyundai made wishes come true for two football fans and their families when the company sent two pediatric cancer survivors to this year’s Super Bowl in thanks to its charity, Hope on Wheels.
Along with tickets and transportation to and from the game, the kids also each got a team jersey and a camera to document their amazing night. The kids, 11-year-old Eden Green and 16-year-old Cristian Beasley, were also put in charge of Hope on Wheels’ social media, recording the events of the event through their eyes and posting for the world to see.
“Eden and Cristian are amazing kids, who have battled a very difficult disease. They represent courage and hope in the fight against pediatric cancer,” Jerry Flannery, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor America, said. “In our 19th year at Hyundai Hope On Wheels, Hyundai wanted to leverage our amazing NFL sponsorship to bring more awareness about the importance of childhood cancer. Regardless of what team fans are routing for, we want more people to remember the kids and their families that fighting one of the biggest games of their own lives; and that is the fight against pediatric cancer.”

The Truth About Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles

When you consider your options for your next car, truck or SUV, be sure to think not just of new vehicles and used vehicles, but also of certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles. This third option in the car market is often forgotten and/or not completely understood. Even so, a CPO could be the best fit for your needs.
Certified Pre-Owned vehicles are cars, trucks and SUVs that have been used, but only lightly, and that are still under warranty from the manufacturer. This is a safer bet than a used vehicle because the vehicle has to go through rigorous inspection to still be considered for the manufacturer warranty. Basically, you can consider a CPO vehicle among the best of the best in the used car market. Plus, you will spend much less on a Certified Pre-Owned than on a new car. That drive-off-the-lot price drop has already been deducted.
Before you go out and purchase a CPO vehicle, you should be sure to know how a vehicle gets certified, so you don’t fall into any traps. A vehicle can only be certified by a manufacturer franchised dealership. So when you are looking for a certified Hyundai, don’t go to a Honda dealership. The only thing that Honda dealership will be able to do with a used Hyundai is offer an extended warranty that you pay for. That isn’t what you want. You want the manufacturer backed, national warranty.
Each manufacturer has a different national warranty, so you may want to check up on which one you think is best before deciding on what vehicle you want. For example, Hyundai offers America’s Best Warranty covering each Hyundai vehicle for 10 years or 100,000, which ever comes first. This makes Edmond Hyundai a valuable option for those in the OKC, Edmond, Norman or Moore area looking for a new-to-you vehicle. Where ever you purchase, knowing what warranty coverage will last longer will affect the value of the CPO you purchase.
Though you will have to do a bit more research than you might for a new vehicle, purchasing a CPO vehicle will surely save you money, and will make your on-the-lot inspection a lot easier. Just food for thought before you decide on a new car, truck or SUV.
Plan for Your Resolution

In Oklahoma and all around the world, this time of year is full of promise for the next. Everyone is deciding what they want to accomplish in the next 365 days that make up 2017. Resolutions abound, but how do you make resolutions become your reality? By taking the simple steps.
1. Make a choice There are so many choices for the things you can do this year. Eat right, gain or lose weight, quit a habit, pick up a habit, read more, keep up with vehicle maintenance on time… The possibilities are endless. But you are one person, so pick one resolution. That way you can make sure you keep the one that is most important.
2. Create a master plan Whether you want to quit cold turkey, or you want to gradually build up strength, every resolution needs a plan to follow. Set benchmarks, and understand the path you are walking down before you even start. This makes for a more successful resolution.
3. Get your dates in order Do you want to get your start before or after January 1? When should your goal be complete? Remember that you make these dates, and it is you who has to keep them, so make them comfortable, realistic and attainable for you.
4. Keep your eyes on the prize Especially if you have a resolution that takes time to achieve, you should keep yourself motivated by treating yourself when you hit benchmarks or do something significant for your resolution. Splurge on a new purse, eat a second piece of cake or whatever make you happy. It is wise to keep these treats in line with your resolution though. So, if you are trying to quit smoking, don’t pat yourself on the back for a week of smokelessness with a cigarette.
5. Understand that you’re going to fail You are making this resolution for a reason, my fellow Oklahoman. This thing you’re trying to do is difficult for you, so you’re not going to be able to hit the ball out of the park on your first swing. You will need to accept your small hiccups as just that, and then continue moving toward your final goal. This is likely the most important tip of this blog.
We hope these resolution tips help you achieve your goals in the coming year. We figured we would share our 2017 New Year resolution with you all for reading our article. This year, Edmond Hyundai hopes to make as many people in the Oklahoma City, Edmond, Moore and Norman area happy with their car buying experience as possible. So, if your new year resolution or resolutions include getting a new or used car, truck or SUV, Edmond Hyundai’s resolution is to be the very best dealership in Oklahoma. Come and give us a shot in 2017.
