Yukon, Oklahoma is nowhere near as cold or relentless as the wild Yukon region in Northern Canada. However, it has a spirit of adventure and wonder all its own. For a small town in Oklahoma, Yukon has some big thrills and experiences.

Only a few minutes away from Oklahoma City, Yukon is often overshadowed by its much larger neighbor. However, this town has served as a hub for farmers in the area ever since its inception.

Yukon was established in 1891, and the end of the 19^th century. The name was derived from Canada’s Yukon region, which was experiencing a massive gold rush at the time. While gold wasn’t abundant in the area, Yukon served as a prime stop for trains moving cross-country on railroads.

At the center of Yukon’s industry was a milling operation. The Yukon Mill and Grain Company grew flour to distribute all across the state of Oklahoma.

As the milling business expanded, more and more regional farmers began to move to Yukon. Soon, the town served as an urban center for these agricultural workers.

Farmers weren’t the only ones to move to Yukon. After World War I, an exodus of immigrants from Czechoslovakia headed to Yukon. Soon, the town became known as the Czech capital of Oklahoma.

Both Edmond, Oklahoma and Yukon, Oklahoma made the top 3 in the “These are the 15 Best Places to Live in Oklahoma.” 

Some famous residents have also grown up in Yukon. Country music legend Garth Brooks called Yukon his boyhood home. Dallas Cowboys kicker Dan Baily also hails from Yukon.

With adventure and history around every street corner, the town of Yukon, Oklahoma is an often forgotten gem that is not to be missed!

The latest integration technology brings your phone to your car. Hyundai is the first automaker to launch this technology known as Android Auto on its production vehicles.

What exactly is Android Auto? This handy software application can be installed in your car’s infotainment system to reduce driver distraction on the road. By connecting new software on your Hyundai model to an application on your Android-based smartphone, you will be able to access numerous voice-activated commands in your car.

For instance, drivers can access Google Maps, messaging, phone calling, and many popular music programs through voice and steering-wheel controls.

When it was first launched, Android Auto could only be installed on the 2015 Hyundai Sonata with Navigation-specifically the Sport, Eco, Limited, Sport 2.0T and Limited 2.0T models. As Hyundai’s models continue to be updated, Android Auto will become available on more vehicles.

Ah, driver’s education; the boring hours upon hours of extra class work that our parents made us take. Sitting in a small room for half of the day listening to the instructor drone on about what traffic signs mean and watching the infamous “Red Asphalt,” every young adult participating is thinking the same thing, “Is this worth it?” In this article, we’ll delve into the benefits of taking driver’s education in Oklahoma. 

According to the CDC, the leading cause of death for teens in the U.S. from the age of 16-19 is motor vehicle crashes. Along with this are a number of frightening facts: Teens in this age group are the least likely to wear seat belts, are more likely to speed, have less of a tolerance to alcohol and become intoxicated quicker, and have a much more difficult time driving at night. Much of this is due simply to lack of experience, driving can be very dangerous and takes time and caution to master. 

Where some states like Florida and Texas require driver’s education, Oklahoma does not. But in Oklahoma, most insurance agencies provide a considerable discount on insurance rates when providing to a new driver that has taken driver’s education. So the insurance on your child’s new car can be chipped away at and made more affordable with these courses. 

The most valuable part of driver’s education, in my opinion, was the personal and hands-on tutelage behind the wheel with an instructor in the car with you. While the classroom may give you some tips and tricks on safe driving your parents may have overlooked when letting you drive around an empty parking lot, the experience of getting on the road with a teacher is invaluable. While the experience may not keep you from getting in a wreck your first year driving, it will at least help keep you from panicking and make the accident less worse than it could have been.

 The Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell has officially made its mark on history. In total, drivers have accumulated enough emission-free miles to reach the moon’s surface and return to Earth. That is over 477,800 miles of nothing but pure water vapor! 

Mike O’Brien, Vice President of Corporate and Product Planning for Hyundai Motor America, said, “Surpassing another fundamental stellar threshold gives us a glimpse into the unlimited zero-emissions potential for Hyundai fuel cells.”

The drivers reached the impressive feat after only a few short months too. It took the entire group 240 days to officially drive the distance to the moon, and then half of that to finish the return trip. The potential for zero-emissions driving by the Hyundai Tucson has just scratched the surface, and we’re excited to see more as the rest of this year unfolds.

The Hyundai Fuel Cell technology has sparked some serious automotive interest. Lexus used the technology to present their new Concept in the recent Tokyo Auto Show, the LF-FC. This would not be coming for quite some time, but is still an exciting future plan amongst both automakers.

 The timing isn’t always perfect when circumstance decides you need a new car. When I had to buy my new vehicle, it was because of a wreck, I had just graduated college, and I didn’t have a full-time job. Talk about stressful. But there is an answer to this problem for most people– the car you already have. Trading in your vehicle is a great way to get a nice lump sum for a down payment, which can get you a lower interest rate, saving you money in the long term. But you should always follow certain steps to ensure you get the most from your used car:

1. Research to know your car’s worth. Before you enter negotiations, you should always have your numbers handy. To get your price range, research similar vehicles to yours online. See what they are listed for at dealerships, what Kelley Blue Book says your car should be valued at and how much personal sellers are asking for them. That should paint a clear picture of what you can price your car at, and expect that price to be met, not ignored. 

2. Look at the car like a dealership would. Rose-colored glasses are overrated. Don’t wear them when you’re looking at your trade in. Dealerships will look at a car and only see what they have to fix before they can put it on the lot. A rule of thumb is the faster they can put it on the lot and sell it, the more money you will get for your trade. That being the case, do everything you can to make your car shine and run well before you take it in to get appraised! I’m talking car wash, detail, fix a dent, change a headlight, anything you can fix. That small cash at the front end of a deal can get you big bucks from a dealership. 

3. Keep your records, people! If you can prove that you have taken excellent car of your used car, dealerships will have no choice but to value your car more. Regular oil changes, tune ups, tire rotations, and any other scheduled maintenance that you can prove you have done regularly or recently will help you.

4. Make sure you time your trade right. This follows simple supply and demand. Don’t trade in a convertible in the winter when you could wait until summer and get more for that same car. 

5. Use your power of will. Always remember you have the power in the trade situations. The dealership wants your business, but you can walk away from a deal. Don’t let go of your keys until you are happy with the price they are offering you.

Hyundai and its nonprofit organization Hyundai Hope On Wheels will be presenting the Levine Cancer Institute in Charlotte, NC with a $50,000 Hyundai Impact award on Tuesday, July 18th. The funds presented will be used to support the continued work of pediatric cancer research and new programs. 

Hope on Wheels has made it a goal to award to award $15 million toward pediatric cancer research and programs this year alone. This brings the organization’s donation total to $130 million since Hyundai joined the fight against pediatric cancer in 1998. With this new grant, the Levine Cancer Institute will have received more than $525,000 from the organization. 

To commemorate the award, children battling cancer will participate in the program’s signature Handprint Ceremony where they will dip their hands in paint and place their handprints on a white 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. The colorful handprints represent their individual and collective journey, hopes, and dreams. 

We applaud Hyundai and Hope on Wheels for recognizing the doctors, researchers, and children as true heroes and giving hope to those who face the toughest battle.
