In the 2022 “Top Safety Picks+”, awarded by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), Hyundai SUV crossovers received numerous accolades, being ranked among the top 22 safest crossover SUVs.
The Appeal of a Crossover SUV
While domestic full-size pickup trucks sell in greater numbers per model, crossover SUVs have been gaining enormous traction in the United States. Recently, crossover SUVs have become an extremely popular form of transportation among all walks of life: singles, families, and empty nesters. Perhaps it is the extra room offered for passengers, the taller ride height, or even the easy handling of these vehicles; whatever the reason, crossover SUVs have found their way into the heart of America.
Growing families account for a large portion of the crossover SUV’s popularity in America– especially seven-passenger models. Families require something roomy, easy to drive, and safe. It’s extremely important to choose an SUV that keeps its passenger protected in a collision with minimal chance of serious injuries, and comes equipped with high-tech safety gear that can prevent collisions from occurring in the first place. That is why Hyundai set out to make the safest crossover SUV on the market, to protect families.
According to the IIHS, this year’s crossover SUV market is among the best in regards to safety. 2022 produced 34 small, midsize, and luxury crossovers earning the IIHS’ Top Safety Pick+, and another 20 crossovers earning the Top Safety Pick (without the plus) award.
About the Awards
The IIHS is an “independent, nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to reducing deaths, injuries and property damage from motor vehicle crashes through research and evaluation and through education of consumers, policymakers and safety professionals.”
In 2006, the nonprofit began ranking vehicles by safety with the Top Safety Pick awards, and in 2013 inaugurated the Top Safety Pick+ awards, holding vehicles at an even higher standard.
To achieve the ranking of Top Safety Pick, a given model must receive good scores in all of IIHS’ crashworthiness tests, including front and side-impact tests, and both driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal crash tests that replicate hitting a tree or light pole. Each model then can earn a “superior” or “advanced” designation for its standard or optional forward emergency automatic braking system. Superior-rated systems have the ability to automatically apply the brakes if necessary to avoid a crash or reduce speeds by at least 5mph in two tests conducted at 12 and 25 mph. A model with “advanced” rating must be able to avoid a collision in one of the two tests.
To achieve the illusive “Plus” status, a vehicle must further offer good or acceptable-rated headlights as standard equipment (non-plus models have to, at the very least, offer them as optional equipment somewhere within the model line.) Being able to light up the road ahead is too often overlooked, but is still a critical element of vehicle safety, as about half of traffic deaths occur in the dark, and a quarter of them on unlit roads. Many of the models rated poorly in this designation don’t provide enough illumination to enable a driver going 55 mph on a straight road to stop in time after seeing an obstacle in the vehicle’s path.
Keep in mind that frontal crash-test results can only be accurately compared among same-size vehicles, due to the laws of physics. So, a top-rated compact car does not necessarily provide the same level of occupant protection as a larger sedan or SUV in a given collision. Side-impact tests, conversely, can be readily compared across the vehicle size and weight classifications due to the manner in which they are conducted.

All About the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SE

In 2019, Hyundai debuted the Kona Electric – an EV which demonstrated that Hyundai can create an exceptional electric vehicle. In fact, that year, the model made its way to the top of the best EV lists. Now, with the coming release of the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SE crossover, Hyundai proves that they are one of the top EV producers in the game.
Hyundai, who finds its appeal among bargain hunters and those looking for vehicles to fit the whole family in. This newest model will become a fierce competitor in the electric crossover market. As the Ioniq 5 moves into premium territory.
The electric model was launched last year in other regions such as South Korea, Europe, and Australia. Now the 2022 Ioniq 5 SE is scheduled to hit American markets in spring. So, without further ado, let’s look into the features of this model and see why Hyundai’s EVs are world-class.
The Look Of The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SE
This 2022 Electric Hyundai combines past and present with its appearance: bringing modernity to the classic SUV-styled small crossover. The exterior is sleek and attractive, introducing sharp lines and a well-balanced chassis to the box-shaped SUV. The interior, too, melds together minimalism with luxury.
Ioniq 5 Charging Ability
The Ioniq 5 SE boasts a competitive range of up to 303 miles, while all trim levels proudly possess a package of advanced safety and driver assist features, top of the industry charging speed, and powerful all-wheel drive options.
The vehicle’s 800-volt electrical architecture can handle ultra fast recharging on road trips (the industry standard is 400 volts). While other 800-volt EVs will be produced, most will be in the super-premium and luxury range: the Porsche Taycan is the only other EV available today that offers 800-volt charging.
The common 150-kilowatt charger, which can recharge a 90 percent depleted battery back up to 80 percent capacity in 25 minutes, falls far behind the Hyundai EV which for a 90 percent depleted Ioniq 5 battery, the same recharge is 18 minutes on 250-kilowatt DC fast-chargers.
In terms of home charging, the 2022 Ioniq 5 SE’s standard 11 kilowatt Level 2. The 240-volt onboard chargers allows the car to charge in about six hours and 45 minutes.
Electric Efficiency
In 2021, Hyundai created early production versions of the impressive Ioniq 5 Limited available for a nearly 175-mile test drive through the mountains of San Diego County. The test drive involved a fast-charge demonstration in a shopping mall across from the U.S.-Mexico barrier.
In terms of efficiency, the Hyundai EV tested was rated for 256 miles of range, showing 65 miles of range remaining at the end of the drive– pointing to the fact that only about 16 miles of range were lost to hill climbing and driving with a lead-foot. Still, the Ioniq 5 SE proves to be incredible, as the EPA listed the vehicle among the top 10 EVs for overall efficiency.
The EV was decorated with a four-level regenerative braking system, which garners energy as the model slows. The Ioniq 5 crossover also has the “i-Pedal” setting, just as the Kona electric, which gives the system enough power to bring the vehicle to a complete stop without stepping a foot on the brakes.
Acting similarly to downshifting in a gas vehicle, this feature is quite handy in stop-and-go traffic and mountain driving.
Drivability
Built on an EV-specific modular platform co-developed by Hyundai and Kia, the Hyundai Electric’s skateboard design places the batteries under the vehicle’s floor and between the axles for a low, road-hugging center of gravity that creates a well-balanced ride.
During the test drive, the Ioniq 5 faced Southern California freeways, city streets, winding country roads, and tackled a 5,000 foot mountain. As a whole, the new model was found to be very roomy with stellar visibility. Also it entailed decent handling, a lot of power, an almost luxury class cabin, and a very comfortable ride.
Claiming a time of 5.1 seconds for a zero-to-60 mph. The 2022 Electric Hyundai’s 320-horsepower dual-motor, all-wheel drive powertrain (available in all three trims) proves the model is pretty dang fast.
With sporty handling and comfortable ride quality, the Ioniq crossover approaches country and urban roads and freeways with ease. The vehicle offers a sport mode, which adjusts the accelerator and steering for top-level responsiveness; in this mode, the vehicle has tight and responsive steering. There’s also a normal mode and an eco mode which slows things down, even climate settings, to conserve battery power. All three of the AWD models utilize an energy-saving heat pump instead of an electric heater for cabin conditioning.

Unveiling The 2022 Best Cars For The Money Awards

The 2022 Best Cars for the Money awards were presented by US News & World Report, a global authority in rankings and consumer advice. The awards, which allocated and spanned 11 classifications, include honors for cars, SUVs, and minivans that offer the finest balance of long-term value and a great ownership experience.
When it comes to a new car to buy, especially towards new vehicle owners and selecting the perfect one, it really does “require more than just the price tag”, said Jim Sharifi, Managing Editor of U.S. News Best Cars. “The cheapest automobile on the lot can impact a lot on the cost of high ownership, or it may be unfit for the buyer’s requirements and expectations. The best cars for the Money designation denotes a very high degree of value and advantages at the dealership as well as over the vehicle’s lifespans. These vehicles also provide adequate awareness in order to attract ownership conveniences by letting customers try out perks, comfort, and performance that they appreciate associating with the type of cars these customers want to purchase..
Winning The Big Award
Hyundai has been the only brand to win five Best Cars for the Money accolades this year, more than any other car brand. Honda received three awards, while Kia, Nissan, and Toyota obtained only one. This is the sixth time that the Honda Odyssey has won, further establishing its name. But the Hyundai Kona, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Hyundai Tucson, all earned this honorable award for the second time. In addition, the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid, and Hyundai Tucson Hybrid each received this award for the very first time.
Below are the awards for the Best Cars For The Money that Hyundai received in 2022:
- Best 2-Row SUV for the Money: 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe
- Best Compact SUV for the Money: 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Clear the road! Hyundai’s got an upcoming vehicle that’ll have other EVs shaking in their tires. Make room for the boldest electric concept by Hyundai to date, the Ioniq 7!
Making its world premiere at the 2021 Auto-mobility LA Convention, Hyundai has presented the almighty Hyundai Ioniq 7 SUV! This is the latest concept SUV that was released within the “Ioniq” sub-brand of electric battery automobiles under Hyundai. We would like to emphasize the word “concept” when discussing the Hyundai Seven since it has not made its way to production … yet! Its estimated production year is 2024. We’re so enchanted by all that the Hyundai Seven has to offer that there’s no use in keeping our excitement inside! It blends ancient historic elements while creating history itself! It’s luxurious but not stuffy. It encapsulates what’s needed for a mindful, modern driver who wants to drive in style. Hyundai will be proudly blending generations through this concept’s luxury. Our favorite automaker never ceases to fail us!
Seven is the New Number One!
This all electric Hyundai is the biggest concept to date that we’ve seen from the cutting-edge South Korean automaker, potentially literally and figuratively. This is an extra-large SUV that only comes in extra-large. It has an extra tall grille that enhances its perception of being an “oversized” SUV. The Hyundai Seven has a wheelbase that stretches out to be 10.5 ft. It also has a ground clearance of 8 inches! The 2020 Lincoln Navigator, and Dodge Durango, and other oversized SUV trucks will have to make room for this substantial vehicle! It comes in two-wheel and all-wheel-drive configurations.
The latter option comes with 308 hp! It charges in a flash! You’ve heard the idiom of going “0 to 100 in a second”? Hyundai aims to personify this idea through the concept vehicle’s ability to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in about 20 minutes! It holds 800-volt hardware which could enable it to recover 62 miles in as little as 5 minutes. Mind you, a fully-charged battery would hold the capacity of driving “over 300 miles”. Hyundai is developing wireless charging for all vehicles with EGMP platform models! This Hyundai EV is built on the electric-global modular platform. This ‘platform’ includes the vehicle’s motor and power electric system, its wheelbase, and its battery. It upgrades an electric vehicle’s performance, so your car fits your lifestyle.
Pixel Details
It’s impossible to bypass the pixelated decorations on the exterior of the Hyundai concept car. The pixels can be found in the vertical rectangular headlights that are placed on the opposite sides of the deluxe-sized grille. The lights can be spotted in the daytime running lights that run as a full-width line across the hood of the car. It holds a memorizing glass rear hatch. This glass feature takes up most of the rear-facing real estate on the vehicle in replacement of a rear windshield and trunk space. Wait, with glass in the back, cushy seats in the interior, where’s the storage space? Hyundai keeps us guessing by placing the designated storage space or “trunk” space under the hood.
Exterior Design
The Hyundai Seven holds a sleek and muscular silhouette that can be identified through the body’s avant-garde shape. Opening the Hyundai’s oval-shaped, coach-style doors reveals, in the Hyundai Motor Group’s own words, a “more fluid interior layout”. You’re immediately welcomed by three rows of seats. The front and passenger seats hold the ability to pivot and slide around with another set of seats behind them. The third row of seats present as a bench with couch-like seats that sweep from side to side in the rear. The seats go against the leather or carpet default options in modern vehicles. Hyundai wants to reestablish standards by premiering upholstered seats in boucle wool and the renewable copper weaved within the fibers.
The Interior Of The Sustainable Hyundai Seven
The automaker’s innovative designs smack away at the broad term of the “future”, and wants to give upcoming generations a tangible promise toward the greater tomorrow. They’re committed to transforming the world of mobility with sustainable and innovative solutions for the benefit of people and the planet. Not only is this proved by this vehicle’s electric features, but in the technology within the interior.
Hyundai stands firm in its hygienic and environmentally friendly aspects that are assured to come to future production models. The Hyundai EV has a hygiene mode that sterilizes the interior once the vehicle is unoccupied. It has built-in UVC lights that are set to kill viruses and bacteria! The AC is controlled by two separate units with air coming from the dashboard and from the ceiling! Emulating the airflow as on an airplane, the front occupants will never breathe the same air as back seat passengers. In efforts to thoroughly filter the air, there’s a vent in the car’s floor that sucks the air out, maintaining a cleaning system even in the air we breathe!
Interior Materials
The upholstered seats mentioned before are no regular wool seats but an even greater step toward sustainability. The interior surfaces are made of renewable and recycled materials like bamboo and copper. Silk bamboo can be found in the carpet and the wood trim. They’re extensively using copper which is excellent in stopping the spread of viruses and bacteria. Hyundai is really pushing engineers for this feature in the product as copper can be woven into the hygienically-treated fabric of the seats.
The Hyundai Ioniq 7 Is A Look into the Future
With recent conversations around artificial intelligence, Hyundai wants to reassure us that “futuristic” doesn’t mean “without humans”. “Machines intended to replace humanity counter the intentions within the Hyundai Seven.” as said by Thomas Schemera, the Executive Vice President and Global Chief Marketing Officer. The goal of the Hyundai concept car is to help you prioritize human relationships while in the car, perhaps “family” time with passengers or “me” time for solo drives.
The Hyundai is designed around level 4 self-driving capability which doesn’t even exist yet! You read that right, this concept involves a self-driving car! This would mean the car is programmed to intervene by stopping itself in the event of system failure. A human in the driver’s seat would still be needed! This level of technology won’t be possible until there’s a change in certain infrastructure and rules! Its reimagined interior and self-driving talents are meant to redefine what your time in your car means to you!
In the latter half of 2023, It’s likely that the Ioniq 7 will be displayed in showrooms. In 2024, the Hyundai Ioniq 7 is predicted to be in production and on sale worldwide. What do you picture yourself driving in the future?

The Tough Times Are Over
The previous months of August and September were some of the toughest months for Hyundai Motors because of the industry car chip shortage. Thankfully, Hyundai was able to make it through those tough months, and the chief operating officer put out a statement declaring that Hyundai will start producing its own chips and reduce their reliance on chipmakers. The shortage did not affect only Hyundai, but the entire industry which cut North American production by 1.98 million cars and trucks. After this grueling year of shortages, and losses of money, many automotive companies are on the up and up, especially Hyundai who will continue to rise in sales.
How The Pandemic Created Car Chip Challenges In The Industry
Because of the worldwide pandemic, demands for laptops and other electronic products were through the roof causing there to be a high demand for semiconductors. This surge from electronics shattered some of the auto production lines this past year. Hyundai was then forced to suspend some factories because they would not have made it through the months. The car computer chip industry is making efforts to expand the capacity and is spending a significant amount of money to try and make it happen. Hyundai has decided a different route and would like to decrease their dependency on the industry by developing their own.
Despite The Car Chip Shortage, Hyundai Has Increased Sales
Although the months of August and September were very difficult for Hyundai Motors, their global sales have increased alongside Toyota and Tesla. After seeing the Asian market recover strongly, Munoz said that Hyundai decided not to cut orders during the pandemic; thus, not slowing doing their business.
Turning The Corner On The Car Chip Shortage
By the fourth quarter, Hyundai wants to be back on track and produce cars and trucks for the U.S. market line with its original business plan. Hyundai plans to plant the new microchips in their vehicles by next year. At the end of May 2021, Hyundai announced that they had a 56% sales increase from the previous May, setting a company sales record. Comparing Hyundai to companies like Ford, whose losses range between $1 and 2.5 billion, Hyundai is doing extremely well despite the hardships.
Did Hyundai Predict The Microchip Shortage?
Speculation has risen about whether or not Hyundai foresaw the car chip shortage and stockpiled them because it would easily explain their successful sales they have had compared to many other automotive companies. During the pandemic, the sales chief, Randy Parker, focused on selling the best cars that companies offered like the Elantra, Tucson and Santa Fe and focused production on these vehicles. Even though Hyundai shut down production in the month of April they are still doing far better than other competitors. Whether or not they planned on the car chip shortage, the development of their own chips for cars will become a very important aspect of the business plan and continue to help them succeed in the automotive industry.
Hyundai’s Best Sellers And How They Made it Through Shortage
Hyundai has always been known for developing vehicles at a respectable price. The Tucson being one is a best seller for a simple reason: the compact crossover delivers power and efficiency while maintaining an eco-friendly standard. The Santa Fe is another best seller because it was awarded a Top Safety Pick award for it’s a modern design and excellent technological advancements. Lastly the Elantra has claimed its spot on the bestseller list because of its dependability and affordability. Despite the difficult times, Hyundai has pushed through and managed to maintain and develop award winning vehicles that promise safety, efficiency and affordability.

2022 Hyundai Kona – An SUV Dream

Once in a while you end up driving an SUV that delivers such a smooth, crisp ride, you forget that you are in an SUV. Expect that from the 2022 Hyundai Kona. To put it simply, the subcompact Kona is a great package that combines style, the feel of a car, and sensibility all while providing an elevated driving position you would expect from a SUV. Hyundai is known for providing a lot of features as standard features and the Kona is no exception. The higher trim levels come with even more features to keep your Hyundai SUV safe, connected, & comfortable. Because the Hyundai Kona is a subcompact SUV, it won’t have as much cargo space as a full-sized SUV. But what this vehicle lacks in space, it has more than made up for with it’s drivability and technology. Let’s dive into the details of this latest offering from Hyundai.
What’s New On The 2022 Kona
Hyundai has a good reputation for keeping up with the times. This year appears to be no different. Hyundai has given the 2022 Kona a complete makeover both inside and out. The new features will have you ohh and ahh over them.
Exterior Features
The exterior features start with an upgraded front end with stylish wheels to match. Throw in a new wide-mouth grille, a faux front, and updated exterior lights and people will be staring at you while you cruise down the street. As they watch you go by, they will also get to see the new rear skid plates that come standard.
Interior Features
The upgraded interior features are mainly technology focused but there are some comfort and safety improvements. A redesigned dashboard that includes digital display gages makes it easier to read your gages while driving. Prepare to be able to charge your phone wirelessly. A great feature for long road trips. The infotainment touchscreen has also grown to 10.3 inches making it easier to touch apps. Your backseat drivers, I mean passengers, will be pleased as well as the new Kona now has heated rear seats.
Performance Features
When it comes to an engine, how many horses do you want? According to Car & Driver, the SE & SEL Kona models come equipped with an 147-hp, four cylinder engine with a six speed automatic transmission while the Limited and N-Line Kona models come standard with an 195-hp, four cylinder engine with a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. All 2022 Kona models deliver sharp handling on the road making this car really fun to drive. So again my question, how many horses do you want?
Kona Fuel Economy
With gas prices approaching $3.00 a gallon, fuel efficiency is at the top of our minds when we are looking to purchase our next car. The 2022 Hyundai Kona doesn’t disappoint. Depending on model, you can expect an average gas mileage of 32-33 mpg. Within its class, the Kona nearly leads the pack. Just one more way that Hyundai is not only trying to help the consumer save money on post-purchase costs, but helping to reduce the carbon footprint we leave as well.
Safety Features On The Hyundai Kona
Driver’s assistance features are all the rage and why not? Who doesn’t want to be safer and better protect ourselves from distraction. The new Kona comes standard with lane-keeping assist, emergency braking, and a driver-attention monitor. Additional safety features are available but optional. You can get a full report on all the safety features, from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IHSS), here.
The Hyundai Warranty
If you have never owned a Hyundai before, you don’t know about the best part of ownership. The Hyundai Warranty is one of the best amongst any car manufacturer leading the company to call it America’s Best Warranty. Hyundai provides a 10 year, 10,000 mile powertrain warranty as well as a 5 year, 60,000 mile limited warranty. As if that isn’t good enough, Hyundai also provides a 3 year, 36,000 mile complimentary maintenance to keep your new car in tip top shape! You can view the full details of the Hyundai warranty here.

- The Hyundai models that won these awards include the Hyundai Ioniq 5, i20N, and Tucson.
- Find these award winning Hyundai vehicles for sale at Edmond Hyundai in Oklahoma.
Hyundai UK – Hyundai rocked the competition in multiple categories in 2021 at the Auto Express New Car Awards. In total, Hyundai walked away with six awards to add to their already impressive collection of accolades. The industry experts at Auto Express New Car Awards understand what it takes to be considered a top brand in this ever evolving environment. It takes being at the forefront of technological innovations, like moving the bar higher for electric cars. Accomplishing this is what a company like Tesla Motor Corporations was able to do, but at a high cost. Whereas, Hyundai is able to bring this technology to everyone, not just the fortunate few, in the form of the very affordable Ioniq 5.
Ioniq 5
The all-new Hyundai Ioniq 5 is bringing revolutionary advancement to the automotive industry. So much so that the experts at Auto Express New Car Awards had to trumpet its name in the ‘Mid-Size Company Car,’ ‘Premium Electric Car’ and ‘Design’ categories. Speaking of design, the sleek contour of the Ioniq 5 rings of elegance and sophistication as its smooth curves hug the road. Anyone one who is not queued up to view this car and its advances in drive technology need to take the time to just experience it for what it truly is, perfection.
While the aesthetics of the Ioniq 5 makes it a work of art, its true identity lies with what’s under the hood. The Ioniq 5 is a reimagined take on how to effectively produce a zero-emissions SUV while maintaining performance and speed. The single motor rear-wheel drive vehicle will throw you to the back of your seat all while being absolutely silent. The Ioniq 5 goes beyond just being efficient, it transcends all other electric vehicle brands by pushing the limits.
From under the hood to what’s inside, the features that drivers engage with every time they get behind the wheel of the Ioniq 5 create the perfect driving atmosphere. The features of the Hyundai SmartSense, like Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go or Lane Follow Assist, provide a sense of calming peace that is unrivaled amongst competition. All while the ergonomics of the interior puts you in the perfect driving position that encourages alertness. Being behind the wheel of the Ioniq 5 feels just . . . enlightening! Gaze upon its mastery with childhood wonderment and experience a true masterpiece.
i20N
The 2021 i20N has been appropriately triumphant in the ‘Hot Hatchback’ category from Auto Express New Car Awards. Experience the thrill of driving a light weight, low car that any adrenaline junkie loves. The engineering behind this automotive marvel pushes the boundaries of what a 4-door vehicle is “supposed to do.” Its recognition as such can be defined as being awarded the ‘Hot Hatchback’ award.
Put the pedal to the metal and hold onto your seats because the i20N will zoom climb those MPHs faster than you think! While the small stature of the i20N may make you believe that the car is just good for efficiency. Well, the i20N is putting power and efficiency on the same playing field! The i20N’s Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) gives you maximum control of the vehicle with the push of a button. Finally, the affordable car that will make you wish you were 16 again!
Tucson
A classic that never fails to amaze, won the ‘Mid-Size SUV’ accolade from the experts at Auto Express New Car Awards. Of course, I am talking about the 2021 Tucson. Steve Fowler of the Auto Express said, “ The Hyundai Tucson is the perfect SUV for our times” and remarked that the “attractive, spacious and easy-to-use interior, high quality fixtures and fittings, and all the kit today’s drivers want and need” is what ultimately won the award committee over.
The Tucson takes the SUV to a whole new level by maximizing space without compromising the vehicle’s purpose. - The 2021 Hyundai Sonata is a standout luxury sedan that has a slew of features and options that fit almost every preference.
- The 2021 Sonata trims include theSE, SEL, Blue Hybrid, SEL Plus, SEL Hybrid, N-Line, Limited, and the Limited Hybrid.
- Find the 2021 Sonata for sale at Edmond Hyundai with a starting price of around $30,000.
Hyundai has stated multiple times their goal when producing vehicles is to maximize the value for the money you are getting when buying one of their vehicles, and the 2021 Sonata this year is no different. For years, the Sonata has offered family & travel goers a perfect solution for those needing safety, technology, and modern design wrapped up into one package. With sharp and prominent curvatures that wrap from the tail bumper all the way to the front fender & headlights, the Sonata features a ton of interesting, quirky features that make it truly standout for what’s offered in Hyundai’s package. A new tire setup and newly-introduced trim line have been shared with the public, offering consumers one of the best all-around sedans in the market.
Engine Performance & Street Statistics
During our testing, we find the 2021 Sonata lacks just a tad in the handling department, needing a little work on offering a smoother, more refined riding experience. However, the Sonata is still easily one of the fastest family sedans we have tested this year, with the N-Line expected to reach 0-60mph times in less than 6 seconds thanks to the new 290-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder & dual-clutch transmission being offered.
As far as we know, there are 8 models being introduced with the 2021 Sonata, ranking from low to high tier versions they go: SE, SEL, Blue Hybrid, SEL Plus, SEL Hybrid, N-Line, Limited, and finally, the Limited Hybrid. We believe the SEL Plus is the best route due to the affordable price range of $29,305 and a slew of features/parts that make it a solid choice, such as the 180-hp turbo-four cylinder engine, 19-inch rims, and enhanced all-season tires. The conventional automatic transmission even in the standard model offers a smooth eight-speed transitioning experience that also does a great job of fuel-saving.
Interior Features & Design
One great thing we love about the inside cabin and features that are included is it feels like you definitely get more than what you pay for. The materials and overall design theme provides a spacious yet complexly feature-packed interior while the cabin itself feels upscale & ergonomic. It only offers a mere 16 cubic feet of cargo space but we were able to fit up to 7-8 carrier bags, which should be more than enough for short trips and such.
The standard models feature an 8.0 inch multimedia display with more expensive models like the SEL & Limited models carrying a premium 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Leatherette and microsuede upholstery, back-seat air vents and USB ports are installed throughout the SEL Plus model. If you opt to go for the “Tech Package,” a 12-speaker Bose stereo, 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, and a semi-autonomous drive mode are all included for an even better, premium driving experience.
Fuel Consumption & Economy
The powertrains throughout Hyundai’s 2021 Sedan are more than efficient enough to keep you from regularly visiting the gas station. In fact, the hybrid models such as the Blue Hybrid, are capable of reaching gas mileage of 50mpg in the city and 54mpg on the highway. The base 2.5-liter engine has estimates of up to 28/38 mpg city/highway while the turbocharged 1.6-liter engine sacrifices around 1 mpg in both categories.
Our Final Thought
Hyundai isn’t messing around when they say “value for your money.” The minimum price of the Sonata at $24,995 (SE model) is a solid affordable price point that rivals many competitors such as the Toyota Camry & Honda Accord. On the other hand, the higher end models such as the N-Line & Limited Hybrid reach up to $36,000 for a large list of advanced safety features, solid engine performance, and a clean, feature-packed interior. Regardless of what model you choose, the Sonata is a great choice for those who want a feature-packed ride delivering an upscale experience at a price that won’t break the bank.

- The 2022 Hyundai Kona is Hyundai’s first performance SUV/Crossover that has all the latest updates in performance, styling, and technology.
- The 286 HP engine paired with its stiff suspension, tight handling, and 19-inch alloy wheels make the 20-second N Grin Shift boost an absolute blast to drive.
- Find the 2022 Hyundai Kona for sale at Edmond Hyundai.
The so called “N” brand has been a favorite by many for years now, and with the exciting news that Hyundai is now integrating the Kona into this performance lineup, Hyundai’s new SUV/Crossover is bound to turn some heads on the road, and on the tracks. With its turbocharged engine, sport-tuned suspension/chassis, and an industry new “Drag Boost” feature, the Kona N is going to be a hot commodity when it comes out this spring.
Engine & Performance
As one of the main selling points of the Kona N this year, Hyundai’s newest SUV heavily focuses on providing a sporty experience using all the latest engine tune-ups & improvements. Packing an exhilarating punch to the line is the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the Veloster N, outputting an enormous 286 horsepower with an N Grin Shift over boost function.
This over boost function is essentially a 20-second burst of 10 additional horsepower for those moments when merging on the freeway or getting to that next green light on a time crunch. Believe us when we say this, it makes a huge difference in real-world situations, not to mention pressing a red button on a steering wheel for an engine boost makes you feel like you’re straight out of a Men In Black movie.
The Kona N Line sends all this torque out exclusively to the front wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (which was also recently added to the Veloster N model) and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. As of right now, Hyundai claims the Kona N will reach up to 62 mph in 5.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 150 mph total, making the 2022 Kona N Line one of the fastest SUVs ever made for production.
Fuel Economy & Pricing
Sadly, the EPA has yet to release any fuel economy estimates for the Kona N. However, we expect the performance N Line to be less efficient than the original model due to the 2.0L engine, which typically uses more gas than smaller engines. Sooner or later, we will have a chance to test out Kona N’s highway and city fuel economy, in which we will release all that information here. For all the information already out about the Kona N’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website along with Hyundai’s Kona N Line page for detailed updates.
Pricing has also yet to be released. However, based on all the updates with hardware and performance, we are expecting to see an increase of about $10,000. This makes the estimated price for this SUV hotrod to be around $35,000, which is a highly competitive price for a 5.5 second launch time SUV.
Driving Safety Updates
Considering it has a massive list of sport performance features, safety is always an important factor when buying an SUV. As of writing this, we don’t have a full list of all the safety features that are going to be included in the 2022 Kona N. However, standard safety features from similar Hyundai models such as the Veloster are expected to be introduced, including lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking.
Obviously, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have yet to release any safety ratings considering the vehicle has yet to be released. More information on the safety ratings can be found on their sites along with Hyundai’s updates on their site.
Interior Technology & Entertainment
Similar to the updated 2022 Kona, the N Line receives an updated 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster along with an identically sized infotainment screen that has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Integration. The highly recommended “Heads-Up” display is capable of communicating lap times and placing the driver at a specific location on a circuit – which we suppose is meant for pre-programmed racetracks.
Our Final Thought
While we hope to see an implementation of AWD capabilities soon, which we see as majorly important for an SUV, Hyundai’s new 2022 Kona N Line is a brand new, exciting addition and Hyundai’s first performance SUV model. The 286 HP engine paired with its stiff suspension, tight handling, and 19-inch alloy wheels make the 20-second N Grin Shift boost an absolute blast to drive regardless of where you are. And with a price tag that is expected to hit below $35,000, Kona’s new features are sure to hit the mark directly on the head for an affordable, performance SUV.
