Safety for Beginning Drivers

Ah, driver's education; the boring hours upon hours of extra class work that our parents made us take. Sitting in a small room for half of the day listening to the instructor drone on about what traffic signs mean and watching the infamous "Red Asphalt," every young adult participating is thinking the same thing, "Is this worth it?" In this article, we'll delve into the benefits of taking driver's education in Oklahoma. According to the CDC, the leading cause of death for teens in the U.S. from the age of 16-19 is motor vehicle crashes. Along with this are a number of frightening facts: Teens in this age group are the least likely to wear seat belts, are more likely to speed, have less of a tolerance to alcohol and become intoxicated quicker, and have a much more difficult time driving at night. Much of this is due simply to lack of experience, driving can be very dangerous and takes time and caution to master. Where some states like Florida and Texas require driver's education, Oklahoma does not. But in Oklahoma, most insurance agencies provide a considerable discount on insurance rates when providing to a new driver that has taken driver's education. So the insurance on your child's new car can be chipped away at and made more affordable with these courses. The most valuable part of driver's education, in my opinion, was the personal and hands-on tutelage behind the wheel with an instructor in the car with you. While the classroom may give you some tips and tricks on safe driving your parents may have overlooked when letting you drive around an empty parking lot, the experience of getting on the road with a teacher is invaluable. While the experience may not keep you from getting in a wreck your first year driving, it will at least help keep you from panicking and make the accident less worse than it could have been. Hyundai has always prioritized safety and family, in both its values and vehicles. With teaching your kid the importance of safe driving is part of the battle, putting them in safe cars is certainly another part. For more information and a look at all of the vehicles we have to offer, please come by or contact us at Edmond Hyundai. Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell | Technology To Power Lexus’s New Concept

The Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell has officially made its mark on history. In total, drivers have accumulated enough emission-free miles to reach the moon's surface and return to Earth. That is over 477,800 miles of nothing but pure water vapor! Mike O'Brien, Vice President of Corporate and Product Planning for Hyundai Motor America, said, "Surpassing another fundamental stellar threshold gives us a glimpse into the unlimited zero-emissions potential for Hyundai fuel cells." The drivers reached the impressive feat after only a few short months too. It took the entire group 240 days to officially drive the distance to the moon, and then half of that to finish the return trip. The potential for zero-emissions driving by the Hyundai Tucson has just scratched the surface, and we're excited to see more as the rest of this year unfolds. The Hyundai Fuel Cell technology has sparked some serious automotive interest. Lexus used the technology to present their new Concept in the recent Tokyo Auto Show, the LF-FC. This would not be coming for quite some time, but is still an exciting future plan amongst both automakers. If you're interested in learning more about the Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell and its technology, visit us at Edmond Hyundai! Our used cars and new Hyundai cars for sale includes the Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai Santa Cruz, Hyundai Santa Fe, Hyundai Sonata, Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Hyundai Palisade, Hyundai Kona, and the Hyundai Venue. How to Get the Most From Your Trade In | 5 Tips

The timing isn't always perfect when circumstance decides you need a new car. When I had to buy my new vehicle, it was because of a wreck, I had just graduated college, and I didn't have a full-time job. Talk about stressful. But there is an answer to this problem for most people-- the car you already have. Trading in your vehicle is a great way to get a nice lump sum for a down payment, which can get you a lower interest rate, saving you money in the long term. But you should always follow certain steps to ensure you get the most from your used car: 1. Research to know your car's worth. Before you enter negotiations, you should always have your numbers handy. To get your price range, research similar vehicles to yours online. See what they are listed for at dealerships, what Kelley Blue Book says your car should be valued at and how much personal sellers are asking for them. That should paint a clear picture of what you can price your car at, and expect that price to be met, not ignored. 2. Look at the car like a dealership would. Rose-colored glasses are overrated. Don't wear them when you're looking at your trade in. Dealerships will look at a car and only see what they have to fix before they can put it on the lot. A rule of thumb is the faster they can put it on the lot and sell it, the more money you will get for your trade. That being the case, do everything you can to make your car shine and run well before you take it in to get appraised! I'm talking car wash, detail, fix a dent, change a headlight, anything you can fix. That small cash at the front end of a deal can get you big bucks from a dealership. 3. Keep your records, people! If you can prove that you have taken excellent car of your used car, dealerships will have no choice but to value your car more. Regular oil changes, tune ups, tire rotations, and any other scheduled maintenance that you can prove you have done regularly or recently will help you. 4. Make sure you time your trade right. This follows simple supply and demand. Don't trade in a convertible in the winter when you could wait until summer and get more for that same car. 5. Use your power of will. Always remember you have the power in the trade situations. The dealership wants your business, but you can walk away from a deal. Don't let go of your keys until you are happy with the price they are offering you. I, and everyone else at Edmond Hyundai, truly hope these tips get you the most from your used car trade. If you are currently looking for the best place to trade in your vehicle, keep Edmond Hyundai in mind. We offer top dollar for trades, and are always on the look out for used cars. (Just be sure you check off this list before you bring in your car, truck or SUV!) We hope to see you soon!

Hyundai Hope on Wheels $50K Donation for Pediatric Cancer Research

Hyundai and its nonprofit organization Hyundai Hope On Wheels will be presenting the Levine Cancer Institute in Charlotte, NC with a $50,000 Hyundai Impact award on Tuesday, July 18th. The funds presented will be used to support the continued work of pediatric cancer research and new programs. Hope on Wheels has made it a goal to award to award $15 million toward pediatric cancer research and programs this year alone. This brings the organization's donation total to $130 million since Hyundai joined the fight against pediatric cancer in 1998. With this new grant, the Levine Cancer Institute will have received more than $525,000 from the organization. To commemorate the award, children battling cancer will participate in the program's signature Handprint Ceremony where they will dip their hands in paint and place their handprints on a white 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. The colorful handprints represent their individual and collective journey, hopes, and dreams. We applaud Hyundai and Hope on Wheels for recognizing the doctors, researchers, and children as true heroes and giving hope to those who face the toughest battle. Russell Westbrook, Our MVP

Source Oklahoma exploded with celebration on Monday, June 26th, when Russell Westbrook was named the league's Most Valuable Player, an outcome we were all expecting. Westbrook led the Oklahoma City Thunder to 47 wins and a playoff appearance. He also became the second player in NBA history to average a triple-double-double-digit-points, rebounds, and assists- for a season. We could go on and on about Westbrooks accomplishments. His biggest one yet, at least for us Oklahomans, is for thriving under unruly circumstances and uniting us as a whole because if there's one thing we can all agree with here is our love and dedication to the OKC Thunder. Thank you for always giving us the best seasons Russ, there is no one more deserving of this award than you! From your family here at Edmond Hyundai

Hyundai Ranks Third in J.D. Power Quality Scorecard

This year Hyundai ranked third in the 2019 J.D. Power quality scorecard, scoring 71 problems per 100 vehicles, which is a slight improvement from its 2018 score. This ranking is a remarkable accomplishment for Hyundai considering more brands dropped this year instead of improving in ranking  in the heavily monitored Initial Quality Study released June 19, 2019, at the Automotive Press Association. The 2019 Initial Quality Study is determined by the results of a 233 question survey across eight vehicle categories and is completed by 76,256 buyers and lessees of new 2019 models. Dave Sargent, vice president of global automotive at J.D. Power, said there are several underlying reasons for Hyundai's high ranking, including its user-friendly technology that is easy for consumers to operate and understand. According to Sargent, Korean brands like Hyundai are adept at "understanding exactly what consumers want in their vehicles and delivering just that."

Doing Good Things Together

Every handprint tells a story. In 1998, Hyundai and a group of New England-area dealers joined the fight against pediatric cancer by supporting a local initiative to support the Jimmy Fund at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This activity quickly grew nationwide and soon became Hyundai Hope On Wheels (HHOW). HHOW is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, that is committed to helping kids fight cancer. The goals of the organization are to fund research and to create awareness for childhood cancer. Hyundai Motor America and its more than 830 dealers and customers support the cause with a donation from every new vehicle sold.   In 2017, HHOW surpasses $130 million in life-time donations to pediatric cancer research in the United States. Why pediatric cancer? Hyundai and its dealers are committed to Better products, Better service, and a Better society. Through acts of better, we donate to charitable efforts in order to benefit society.  Kids are the future and they deserve every opportunity to grow, play and learn in a world free of pediatric cancer. Every 36 minutes a child is diagnosed with the disease in the U.S. Despite advancements in research, one in five diagnosed will not survive. Pediatric cancer is the leading disease and cause of death for U.S. children. At HHOW, our goal is to fund pediatric cancer research, to drive innovative research and to create new discoveries that increase the survival rates of those with the disease. Why funding research matters? As recent as the 1950's, a diagnosis of pediatric cancer has an almost always certain outcome and very few children survived.  Due to advancements technology, improvements in data analysis, and research collaboration, today nearly 80% of pediatric cancers can be cured. The survival rate, while good, does not tell the entire story. Many forms of pediatric cancer remain high risk for children and have shown little progress. And the harmful side effect for far too many kids, take a severe toll on their bodies. The goal of research is to improve cures and to improve care for children diagnosed with the disease. You may be shocked to discover that less than 4% of federal research funding for cancer is designated for pediatrics. Without necessary funding, potentially life-saving research and new treatment therapies will go undone. We believe that these young childhood-cancer fighters deserve a chance, and HHOW is funding research in pursuit of a cure. Why HHOW Research Grants? HHOW has quickly become recognized as a leader in funding of pediatric cancer research in the U.S. More than 780 grants have been awarded over the past 19 years. In fact, there are over 280 HHOW research projects currently underway. For 2017, we will announce an additional 68 pediatric cancer research grants. A HHOW research grant is awarded to an institution that is member of the Children's Oncology group of America (COG) and the doctor-researcher within these institutions is doing research in pediatric oncology, which has a translational benefit to patients. Grant applicants are invited to submit a research proposal once a year. These proposals are peer-reviewed by a scientific panel and funded grants are selected based on their innovation to the field and ability to have the greatest impact on improving cures.  There are 4 HHOW grant categories: 1.      The Hyundai Impact Award ($50,000): a one-year grant awarded to the pediatric cancer oncology department at children's hospitals in the U.S. Funds may be used to provide programmatic support or clinician for patient care at the center. 2.      The Young Investigator Grant ($150,000): a two-year grant, which is peer-reviewed and competitively selected. The grant supports the work of a pediatric oncologist, who is within his/her first 7 years of practice at an academic institution and is doing translational research. 3.      The Hyundai Scholar Hope Grant ($250,000): a two-year grant, which is peer-reviewed and competitively selected. The grant supports the work of a pediatric oncologist, who is an MD physician-researcher at any level of his/her career at any COG member institution and is doing translational research. 4.      The Hyundai Quantum Award ($1 million): a four-year grant, which is for a peer-reviewed and competitively selected. This grant is awarded to a pediatric oncologist, who is an MD physician-researcher, for advanced research projects that focus on high risk pediatric cancers with low survival rates. Why handprints? Each year HHOW visits children's hospitals across the U.S. to donate funds and raise awareness. During the event, we host our signature "Handprint Ceremony" which captures each child's handprint in paint. These handprints are placed on Hyundai cars that travel across the country to build colorful awareness of the program. Because there is nothing more personal than a handprint, each is distinctive in its own way. Whether it's completing a round of chemo, celebrating a beautiful new head of hair or receiving a clean bill of health, one child's milestone can be another's symbol of hope. And these handprints serve as our symbol. Why do we fight to End Childhood Cancer? It's all about the kids. No child ever deserves to hear the words 'you have cancer.' HHOW is dedicated to supporting pediatric cancer research that finds innovative approaches, creates discovery, and improves care for children fight cancer. Working together with the physician-research community, we seek to find a day when no child loses his/her fight with cancer again. In 2017, Hyundai Hope On Wheels will reach $130 million in donations to pediatric cancer research. In the years to come, we will continue to award additional grant dollars and to create greater awareness for the disease. And, we invite you to join our journey and help spread the word through your direct participation, personal involvement and social media activities to increase awareness.
